The songs of Rico Blanco are officially set to be turned into a musical next year.
On December 3, theater production company 9 Workz Theatrical announced that they are set to a new musical based on the music of OPM rock icon Rico Blanco. The musical will be titled Liwanag Sa Dilim, based on the Rivermaya song of the same name, and is expected to be staged this March 2025 at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City.
The forthcoming musical will be directed by Robbie Guevara, best known for also helming other musicals such as Once On This Island and Eto Na! Musikal nAPO! as well as local productions of Jonathan Larson’s Rent and Tick, Tick… Boom!

Earlier this year, Rico Blanco released a reimagined version the Rivermaya classic “Kisapmata,” serving as the follow-up to his reimagining of another Rivermaya hit “You’ll Be Safe Here.” Last February 17, 2024, Blanco and fellow Rivermaya members Bamboo, Nathan Azarcon, and Mark Escueta got together for a one-night-only reunion concert at the Festival Grounds in Parañaque City. They also went on a reunion tour of North America last September and October and just announced that they are set to head to Dubai in February 2025.
