The music videos for the top 12 finalists for the PhilPop Himig Handog have been unveiled.
Announced earlier this year in July, the list of finalists consists of Ice Seguerra’s “ATM,” Ferdinand Aragon’s “Buhi,” Jolianne’s “Dili Na Lang,” KHIMO’s “Ghostwriter,” Maki’s “ Kurba,” Geca Morales, Lyka Estrella, and Annrain’s “Langit Lupa,” VXON’s “MHWG,” Moira and Johnoy Danao’s “ Papahiram,” Kurt Fick’s “Salamat (Nga Wala Na Ta),” Noah Alejandre’s “ Taliwala,” Shantel and Extrapolation’s “Tulala,” and FANA and Tiara Shaye’s “Wag Paglaruan.”
PhilPop Himig Handog is the result of a collaboration of PhilPop Music Fest and Himig Handog that started from a mentorship program that offers workshops and songwriting sessions for aspiring Filipino composers. Their most recent collaboration dates back to the pandemic The grand finals where the Best Song from this year’s festival will be determined is set to happen in 2025.
In a previous press release, ABS CBN Music’s creative director, Jonathan Manalo, detailed the rigorous process behind the selection for this festival; “We then shortlisted possible interpreters for each track, and a lot of things had to be considered or fall into place. The next steps include choosing an artist that fits the genre and production schedule. We couldn’t simply pick someone based on name value. They had to make sense in terms of style, the songwriter’s vision, and overall commitment to the song, among others.”
