P-Pop is not just a genre – It’s a cultural phenomenon.
That’s precisely what the 9th iteration of the PPOP Music Awards celebrated last December 28, 2024, at the New Frontier Theater, Cubao. Commemorating all kinds of prestigious awards from Album and Song of the Year to Breakthrough Artist of the Year, the show presented itself as a milestone event for the developing P-Pop community. The event also highlighted the growing rookie acts in P-Pop audiences must keep an eye out for, shining light on hidden gems and talents.
Throughout the night, BINI took the awards in a near sweep, scoring eight titles in total, including Fandom of the Year for their BLOOMs. Following soon after, the individual members of SB19 took four awards, along with the award for P-Pop Icon. Newer talents in the scene, 1621 BC and BILIB, were then acknowledged with the P-Pop Potential award, and fresh acts, Aster and New:ID, were awarded with the New Artist of the Year title.
Boasting of the show’s highest production value yet, the PPOP Music Awards founding chairman Yuan Jhon Mark Quiblat detailed, “This year, we’re taking the P-Pop Music Awards to the next level. With bigger stage production, top class performances, new diverse acts, and a wider platform for fans worldwide, this is more than an awards night – it’s a movement, a celebration, and a statement about the culture and influence of P-Pop.”
This grand show served as a stage for the electrifying performances by some of the country’s strongest P-Pop acts and the night’s award winners, such as; Josh Cullen, HORI7ON, KAIA, and 1st.One. Spinning the award show in his own special flavor, as well, was beloved Philippine hip-hop emcee Al James.
