Charli XCX is ready for more cinematic roles as she is set to star and produce the new film from prolific and controversial Japanese horror filmmaker Takashi Miike, known for directing the films Audition and Ichi the Killer.

According to Variety, which first broke the news, the film will be released under the Grammy-winning singer’s newly launched production company, Studio365.

Plot details for the project remain under wraps, and it’s unclear whether the film will fall within the horror genre. However, all roads may lead to horror as Miike’s directorial style is known for its extreme violence and the exploration of societal taboos.

His notable films include Audition, a disturbing thriller about a widower who, with his friend’s help, holds fake auditions to find a partner, only to become entangled with a mysterious woman’s terrifying secret. Meanwhile, Ichi the Killer follows a psychologically damaged man manipulated into attacking rival yakuza members while being pursued by a sadistic enforcer.

This marks the second time the singer has both starred in and produced a film, after A24’s The Moment, which is a mockumentary based on her original concept that follows a pop star preparing for her next arena tour. A.G. Cook, Charli’s longtime collaborator who also worked on Brat, will compose the film’s score.

Charli follows up her Brat summer with her other upcoming film roles, which include the period fantasy 100 Nights of Hero with co-stars Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) and Emma Corrin (The Crown), as well as the erotic thriller I Want Your Sex directed by Gregg Araki (Mysterious Skin).
