Filipino singer-songwriter Morissette is bringing Middle Allie to life in the upcoming musical production, The Notebook: The Musical.
Presented by Theater Group Asia, the musical adaptation of the 1966 novel by Nicholas Sparks makes its international premiere in Manila. It opens this September at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati City.
The stage company shared the news of Morissette’s casting on April 12 across their social media. In an official statement, Creative Director Clint Ramos expressed his joy at the decision, “Casting Middle Allie is a tough process because the character’s songs are technically challenging as they are emotionally demanding. It takes a special kind of vocalist and actress to tackle this role. And we’re overjoyed that Morissette welcomed the prospect.”
Most recognizable through its 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, The Notebook: The Musical made its stage debut in 2022 at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. With music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson and a script by Bekah Brunstetter, the musical sees the beloved love story told in three stages — with young, middle, and older Noah and Allie.
Morissette’s portrayal of Allie, famously played by McAdams, serves as her comeback to her theater roots after 10 years. She shared, “The opportunity came at a perfect time because I had already been thinking about going back to theater.”
Last October 2025, the Asia’s Phoenix held a solo concert entitled “EMBER” to celebrate her 15th year in the industry. She also ventured into acting, with a debut role in the film “Song of the Fireflies,” earning her a Best Actress award from the Manila International Film Festival.
The Notebook: The Musical will run from September 3 to 20, with tickets available via Ticketworld starting April 20.
