Grammy Award-winning artist Kehlani drops her new single “Back and Forth” featuring Missy Elliott, as part of her self-titled album coming this April.
Following the immense success of “Folded,” the R&B singer-songwriter is gearing up with 17-track album, Kehlani, titled after herself. With two tracks including “Folded” and “Out The Window” already released, its third and final preview has now come with an exciting feature, rap icon Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott.
Produced by Khris Riddick-Tynes and The Stereotypes, “Back and Forth” blends Kehlani’s emotional groove with Elliott’s confident, no-nonsense bars. It features a sing-song chorus that pays homage to the 1994 hit of the same name by the late Princess of R&B, Aaliyah. The song brushes off drama with a lover in favor of a carefree night out, with Kehlani and Elliott singing “I ain’t goin’ back and forth tonight / I’m goin’ out.”
The track hints at what’s to come on Kehlani, which is said to represent “an intimate and fearless body of work that reflects her clarity, confidence, and creative freedom.” With its first three tracks already out, the album already sounds like a promising follow-up to her 2024 LP CRASH, featuring the Grammy-nominated track “After Hours.”
Released through Atlantic Records, the self-titled album drops on April 24, the same day as Kehlani’s birthday. The singer is also set to receive the Impact Award at the upcoming Billboard Women in Music 2026 on April 29, where she is set to have a special performance.
