KAIA are officially back with a new song.
On September 27, the rising P-pop girl group released their latest single, entitled “Walang Biruan” (“No Joke”). “The song is about telling someone how much you like them sweetly and honestly,” states KAIA in a press statement. “It has a catchy tune and lighthearted vibe, making it easy to relate to and enjoy.”
The track sees KAIA take on an upbeat bubblegum pop sound for the first time ever, with the members of KAIA co-producing and co-writing the track alongside KINDRED’s Luis Montales as well as Kenneth Amores. “We spent a while on how we can arrange the song and make it more palatable to our audience,” the quintet collectively further expound. “Alexa took part in writing the rap verse, and the four of us, Charlotte, Sophia, Charice, and Angela, exchanged ideas on how we can make the song longer and more beautiful.”
“Walang Biruan” marks a sharp contrast to their previous single “YOU DID IT,” released last April 12, which is notable for its dark and mesmerizing sound as well as lyrics that tackle confronting critics of the group.
In an exclusive statement to Billboard Philippines last month, KAIA’s leader Angela shared how their fans – the ZAIA – had always wanted for them to have a bubblegum pop concept, expressing her joy of how “Walang Biruan” was going to make that dream come true. She personally described the track as a a “feel-good” love song that serves as a sibling to their popular ballad “Dalawa.”
The quintet initially teased “Walang Biruan” last August 18 by posting an audio snippet on their social media before making a preview of the song available for use on social media platforms on September 13.
An accompanying music video directed by Jonathan Tal Placido of Toothless is set to come out soon. Shot entirely on an iPhone – notably a first in P-pop, the music video, as KAIA shares, features “playful scenes” that sees how one’s “imagination runs wild when you’re nervous, but once you finally confess, it’s like a huge weight is lifted.”

KAIA are slated to perform at Billboard Philippines: Mainstage — the one-year anniversary celebration concert of Billboard Philippines.
