Laurenti Dyogi, head of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic, announced last April 5 that they will be holding auditions to find the next generation of P-pop idol trainees.
In an Instagram live, Dyogi revealed that they will be opening again the Star Hunt auditions for the Star Hunt Academy and Star Magic. The auditions, which used to be held regularly, were put on pause due to the pandemic. 2024 marks the first year that they will be resuming the auditions in person.
Those interested in auditioning for the Star Hunt Academy must be between the ages of 13 to 25 years old. Auditions will commence on April 27 and 28 for Metro Manila, after which, the team will hold auditions in Visayas, Mindanao, and Luzon. Virtual auditions will also be held. Final venues and details have yet to be announced as of writing. Watch this space for more updates.
Star Hunt Academy is most famously known as the program that formed the “Nation’s Girl Group” BINI and “Patintero” hitmakers BGYO. The auditions and boot camp were uploaded into episodes on ABS-CBN Star Hunt’s YouTube channel, where trainees were trained in the “idol system.” The top trainees then became the members of BINI and BGYO.
Since then, BINI have gone on to be a chart-breaking P-pop act, where they recently became the top Filipino pop group with the most monthly listeners on Spotify following the release of their EP, Talaarawan (Diary). They were also named the inaugural Rising Star awardees of the Billboard Philippines Women in Music Awards held last March 22 at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura.
In their acceptance speech, Jhoanna shared, “We will still continue to strive for excellence. At dadalhin po namin ang P-Pop sa world stage. Hindi lang po namin nirerepresent ang group namin, kundi lahat ng P-Pop group sa bansa (And we will bring P-Pop to the world stage. We aren’t just representing our own group, but also all the P-pop groups in the country).”
