Today, video celebrates the radio star.

On September 11 (September 12 in Philippine time), the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) commenced at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. The VMAs commemorated some of the best-performing and most memorable music videos to come out within the past year, from August 2023 to July 2024. The awarding scaled across genres and cultures, featuring K-pop artists among Western artists.

From rising sensations like Chappell Roan to established superstars like Taylor Swift, the VMA winners of this year represent the changes in the seasons throughout the past year. Taylor Swift led the show by claiming 12 nominations in total and scoring seven of the awards. Her collaborator on “Fortnight,” Post Malone, followed shortly after her, accumulating 11 nominations. In that light, “Fortnight” took home the Video of the Year award, establishing The Tortured Poets Department‘s prominence throughout the year.

Following closely behind the two stars was rap icon Eminem with eight nominations, pop stars Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter claiming seven each, and R&B icon SZA with six. With 29 VMA wins so far, Beyoncé was looking to extend her title as the “Most Winningest” artist this year, with her track “Texas, Hold ‘Em” garnering three nominations.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards dazzled with a star-studded lineup of performers: Anitta, Benson Boone, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, Eminem, GloRilla, Halsey, Jessie Murph, Karol G, Lenny Kravitz, LE SSERAFIM, LISA, LL Cool J, Megan Thee Stallion, Rauw Alejandro, Sabrina Carpenter, Shawn Mendes, and Teddy Swims.
