Halsey is gearing up for the release of another single, titled “Lonely Is The Muse.”
The “Closer” hitmaker teased the upcoming track’s release earlier this morning and announced its impending release on August 16, 2024, at 12 AM PHST (Philippine Standard Time). Accompanying the teaser was a one-minute snippet of the track, demonstrating a 2000s rock soundscape that accentuates Halsey’s screamo vocals — marking a sonic departure from her previously released singles and most of her discography.
Just a few weeks back, Halsey dropped the single “Lucky,” which samples Britney Spears’s single with the same name. To accompany the track, the singer-songwriter released an emotional short film directed by Gia Coppola starring herself, telling the tale of a pop star who lives a dual life of loneliness under the pressure of the spotlight, all while suffering from a chronic illness. The video also mirrors Halsey’s real-life struggles with Lupus and T-cell disorder, which she revealed to the public this June 2024.
“Lonely Is The Muse” marks the second single off of the alternative pop star’s still unnamed fifth studio album, which is scheduled to be released before the end of 2024. Her last album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, was released in 2021 and was produced and co-written by Nine Inch Nails‘ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The alt-rock record was critically acclaimed upon release, with several outlets describing it as a welcome departure from Halsey’s pop leanings, and marked her most creative and ambitious effort to date. It also marked her final album under Capitol Records.
