Today (March 21), the lucid art pop sensation Ena Mori has just dropped her latest single entitled “Funny,” encapsulating female rage and the power of girlhood friendships. Just in time for women’s month this March, this fresh release marks the Japanese-Filipino’s first release of the year.
In an official press release, the singer-songwriter detailed her rationale behind the track, “I want the listener to feel empowered like they can take on anything. I want them to feel energetic and ready to jump into action, full of excitement.” She later added, “There’s a sense of aggression too — not in a negative way, but in the drive to push forward.”
The song was originally debuted live as an unreleased track during her rave-like performance, Ena Matsuri, that took place at Justin Bella Alonte Photography Studio in Makati City on September 21, 2024. In the same year, she showcased the song at her performance at the prestigious Clockenflap festival, set in Hong Kong from November 29 to December 1 of last year.
The internationally renowned artist previously opened for the Norwegian dream pop artist, AURORA, in her Manila concert last January 31, and followed AURORA’s tour to Singapore to open for that concert as well.
Ena Mori’s latest musical release dates back to July of 2024, with the single, “Trust Me.” The song has made its waves over both local and international sound spheres as a strong, and darker statement of self-expression from the dream pop artist.
Almost one year ago today, the artist had also been crowned as the Rule Breaker Awardee for the Billboard Philippines’ Women in Music celebration.
