dwta has just made a fiery comeback with the release of her latest single, “Nasusunog (Pants on Fire).”
The newly released track steps away from the Bicolana musician’s signature folk sound, embracing alternative rock instrumentation with an empowering set of confessionals for the song. In an official press statement, the artist describes the song as “an exploration of graceful wrath” which by her definitions signifies the act of expressing anger in a way that remains vulnerable and composed. “It’s not screaming or exploding; it’s just simply burning, quietly and beautifully.”
“We realized [this song] could symbolize how deceit burns through trust,” she shares. “It became the foundation for a song about reclaiming power and releasing long-suppressed emotions. It wasn’t just about me, though. It was like a collective emotion from all of us in the room,” the “Padaba Taka” artist shares. “We talked about people who lie, manipulate, and make you feel small, and how we were all done with that. So the song became this emotional release, like a shared fire we all needed to let out.”
Citing Lizzy McAlpine’s song “Erase Me” as a source of inspiration for the track, dwta intends on exploring a moodier palette of her discography following the release of the new single. Penned by dwta herself alongside such collaborators as Tiana Kocher, Ashley Mehta, and Martin Estrada, with producers Martin Estrada and Brian Lotho, the song marks a new era of her artistry, while still keeping the same sincerity that has made her music beloved by so many listeners nationwide.
“Nasusunog (Pants On Fire)” marks the follow-up to her most recent single “Sampung Mga Daliri,” which featured SB19‘s Justin as a featured artist on the track and was inspired by the Filipino nursery rhyme of the same name. Earlier this March, the two singer-songwriters joined forces with the beloved Filipino comic series Hunghang Flashbacks by D. Borja to create a limited edition comic book based on the heartfelt collaboration single.
