The 2025 Grammy Awards race officially kicked off earlier on Saturday (November 9, 2024, at 12 AM) with Beyoncé leading the pack, scoring 11 nominations for her genre-defying COWBOY CARTER album — a boundary-pushing work that blends country influences with her signature sound.
In addition to her nominations, Beyoncé made history by becoming the most-nominated artist of all time, surpassing the previous record she shared with her husband, Jay-Z. With 99 career Grammy nods, Beyoncé now stands alone at the top of the heap, leaving Jay-Z’s 88 nominations behind.
Other standout nominees include Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone, each earning seven nominations. Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift also shine brightly this year with six nods each to their name.
A star-studded lineup of artists, including Kylie Minogue, Victoria Monét, Brandy Clark, and Kirk Franklin, joined forces to announce the nominees live, with the full reveal streamed across the Recording Academy’s official website and YouTube channel earlier at midnight.
This year’s nominations reflect a wide range of musical genres, with major competition in both mainstream and alternative categories.
Album of the Year sees Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER facing off against André 3000’s New Blue Sun, Charli XCX’s BRAT, and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet. Billie Eilish’s highly anticipated HIT ME HARD AND SOFT and Taylor Swift’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT are also up for the coveted trophy. In the Song of the Year category, Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” will compete with new tracks from Taylor Swift (“Fortnight”) and Kendrick Lamar (“Not Like Us”), as well as songs by Chappell Roan and Billie Eilish. Other strong contenders include Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” and Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile.”
Record of the Year brings together an eclectic mix of nominees, including the Beatles’ nostalgic “Now and Then” and Beyoncé’s country-infused anthem “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM.” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” Charli XCX’s “360,” and Billie Eilish’s “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” are also vying for recognition. In the Best New Artist category, 2024’s up-and-comers like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Benson Boone will compete against rising stars such as Doechii, Khruangbin, and Shaboozey.
The country scene is notably represented by Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER and Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion, both in the running for Best Country Album, alongside Kacey Musgraves’ Deeper Well and Chris Stapleton’s Higher. Beyoncé’s genre exploration of country music has made waves this year, earning her multiple nominations across both mainstream and country categories. Meanwhile, Best Pop Vocal Album brings a fierce battle between Taylor Swift’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet. Charli XCX’s BRAT, and Ariana Grande’s eternal sunshine also round out the category.
In the Best Alternative Album category, St. Vincent leads the pack with recognition for her self-produced album, All Born Screaming, while Clairo earns her first Grammy nomination with her third self-released album, Charm. Other nominees for the category include Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Wild God, Kim Gordon’s The Collective, and Brittany Howard’s What Now.
Though most of the responses toward the revealed nominations were positive, several fans called out the Grammy committee for overlooking several artists and their contributions to other categories, including snubs for Ariana Grande’s eternal sunshine in Album of The Year, Dua Lipa for all categories, and BLACKPINK’s LISA for Best New Artist, among several others mentioned.
The 66th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. While a host for the evening has yet to be confirmed, fans and avid music lovers can expect another star-studded event celebrating the best in music. Stay tuned at this space for updates regarding the prestigious awards show.
