Filipino city pop kings ALYSON return with their sophomore album, AFTER OURS, released on May 22, 2026, via Offshore Music.
The band’s sophomore outing captures the warmth and energy of their 2023 debut album, DEFINITELY LOVE!, but with growth, maturity, and a more polished direction and songwriting.
According to the official press release, the record “explores what remains after the thrill settles: the aftermath of intimacy, longing, temptation, emotional reckoning, uncertainty, and the complication that life and love bring.”
Taking cues from Japanese city pop, jazz, Brazilian funk, Motown, Philly soul, ‘70s-inspired OPM, and Manila Sound, ALYSON continue to elevate their songwriting and sonic ambition with their latest record. The result is AFTER OURS, bringing forth a cohesive emotional and sonic journey and not just a collection of singles.
“[The album] is what happens after love lingers longer, when the fire starts burning through, and you’re left with embers,” the band’s lyricist and vocalist, Pio Ligot, shares. “It dives deeper into themes of yearning, temptation, and a struggle for stability. Even the name is a play on what happens after hours when the party and fun are over, and you’re just left to your thoughts.”
The record encapsulates the feeling of maturing from and getting past the honeymoon phase in a relationship, with it being grounded in reality and how love is and how it can be. It also mirrors the band’s growth as artists and an evolution from their debut album.
Roughly a year before formally recording the material in the studio, the band wrote and rehearsed with meticulous care and polish to ensure the record stays true to their vision. They collaborated with orchestral arranger and trumpeter David Jorvina, incorporating ornate horn and string arrangements that further elevate the record’s emotional tendencies.
“We wanted the music to ebb and flow depending on the emotions of the song, so we needed to capture it in a more organic way that a metronome would’ve gotten in the way of,” shares drummer and producer Marcus Mababangloob. “It’s all a very old-school way of working, but it’s a crucial step in emulating and paying homage to how our favorite albums were recorded back in the day.”
The method of live recording isn’t just a compromise but an intentional aesthetic and artistic choice that captures the kind of artists ALYSON are in the wider local music scene. Additionally, the record was mastered in Tokyo by acclaimed engineer Eiji Hirano — known for his work with renowned Japanese acts such as Ryusenkei.
The eight-track album features a standout collaboration with Filipino artist Paprikka on the track “TALAGA,” which is envisioned as a classic city pop duet inspired by the cinematic warmth of vintage anime romances. The record also features the previously released singles: “IKAW LAGI” and “KUNG SAKALING TANAWIN.”
