Former Moonstar88 frontwoman and hit songwriter Acel Bisa-Van Ommen, known by her mononym Acel, has released her newest single titled “Kaba Kilig Kuryente”.
The ballad takes listeners through a story of falling in love and hoping it gets reciprocated. In a press statement, the “Torete” co-producer shared, “Despite being in my forties, I have acquaintances spanning multiple generations. Others are single, while others are married. Then it got me wondering, and we talked about whether you still feel “kilig” after getting married or as you become older. I tried to remember how “kilig” I used to get when I was in love, or thought I was in love.”
In an Instagram post celebrating the release of the single, she wrote, “Isang kwento ng mga kamay na nagdikit dahil lang sa pagtawid” [A story of two hands intertwining just because they crossed paths]”.
Acel served as the lead singer of rock bands Orphan Lily and Moonstar88 before embarking on her solo career in 2004. She is most known for her co-production and singing credits for tracks like “Torete,” “Sulat,” and “Fall on Me.” The singer has released two albums since her solo debut, and is currently gearing up to release her next record in 2024. Acel also revealed that a music video for the track will be launched soon.
“As a solo artist, I believe I have more freedom to accomplish whatever I want or imagine as a songwriter. Unlike in a band, everyone has their own interpretation on a song or what to do in an album that we’re creating. They’re both good, but they’re clearly not the same. As a solo artist, my current challenge is to really stretch my imagination and to serve as the guide on everything that I do in my career.”
