Whether fueled by good old nostalgia or modern day viral success, certain songs — both old and new — are propelled by their current popularity to greater heights, with a number of tracks significantly rising through music charts like Billboard Philippines‘ Hot 100.
From classics like The Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” to hits from rising Filipino artists’ like Eliza Maturan’s “Museo,” this week’s Billboard Philippines Hot 100 sees a few songs having made considerable leaps throughout the chart compared to last week’s rankings, showing great promise of going even higher.
With this, Billboard Philippines compiles all of them into one list, showcasing each track and highlighting their remarkable ascent.
The Goo Goo Dolls – “Iris”
Making a jump from No. 95 to No. 81 this week is “Iris” by alternative rock veterans The Goo Goo Dolls. The song was initially written for the romance-fantasy movie City of Angels (1998), with lyrics mirroring the film’s love story between an angel and a mortal woman. It subsequently became part of the band’s sixth album Dizzy Up the Girl, released on September 22, 1998.
Cup of Joe – “Misteryoso”
With lyrics that explore an unexplainable yet magical romance between two individuals, “Misteryoso” by Cup of Joe currently sits at No. 75 on the chart, making a massive leap from its initial entry last week at No. 100. The fan-favorite track serves as the Baguio alt-pop band’s latest single, released last May 17.
TJ Monterde – “Dating Tayo”
Going from No. 80 to No. 69 this week is singer-songwriter TJ Monterde‘s “Dating Tayo,” the second track from his self-titled debut EP. An OPM classic from 2014, the ballad explores a persistent form of love and devotion — one that stays dedicated despite how much pain their somewhat unreciprocated loyalty puts them through.
Eliza Maturan – “Museo”
Climbing to No. 55 this week is Eliza Maturan‘s viral single “Museo,” which made its debut on the Hot 100 at No. 81 last week. Released last April 19, the heartfelt track paints a picture of the singer admiring someone like they were a work of art in a museum.
Realest Cram, ENZO MF – “Dikapamigay”
Going from No. 58 to No. 40 this week is “Dikapamigay” from rising Filipino hip-hop artist Realest Cram. Serving as the latest single from the “Wag Na” hitmaker, the laidback yet emotive track sees him joining forces with ENZO MF.
Kendrick Lamar – “Not Like Us”
Rising from No. 38 to No. 25 this week is “Not Like Us” from acclaimed American rapper Kendrick Lamar. Serving as a diss track to fellow rapper Drake, the fan-favorite single was released last May 4 and has since received widespread positive critical acclaim.
Dionela, Jay R – “sining”
Achieving the greatest jump on this week’s chart is “sining” by rising singer-songwriter Dionela, going from its ranking at No. 49 last week to the No. 15 spot this week. The single — a collaboration with R&B icon Jay R — explores the magic of a love that stands the test of time, akin to a top-notch work of art.
