After the pandemic, live music events have returned in full force, from large concerts to more intimate independent shows. Gigs are a great way to immerse yourself in the local music scenes all over the country. At a gig, audiences get to witness both up-and-coming and established acts perform up close and personal. If you’re looking for new music to discover — especially from local artists — a live show is the place to go.
Many prominent gig venues are based in the northern part of Metro Manila, which makes the distance inconvenient for many people in the South. However, there are still a number of locations in the South that bring live music closer to the Southies.
From Parañaque to Muntinlupa, these venues are worth checking out if you plan to watch a gig in the South.
Sining Shelter
Located along Sun Valley Drive, Parañaque, this repurposed house has become a favorite for small and intimate gigs for both indie and established artists. According to a Facebook post explaining the origins of the space, Sining Shelter was first conceptualized after its organizers recorded an EP in the basement. Today, acts like Zild, Hannah + Gabi, Perkywasted, and more have graced the Sining Shelter stage.

19 East
19 East has been a mainstay in the Metro Manila gig scene for the past 20 years. Some of the biggest acts in Philippine music have played at the venue, including Mayonnaise, Dilaw, Barbie Almalbis, Juan Dela Cruz Band, Ely Buendia, and Noel Cabangon, just to name a few. With a capacity of 400 guests in the venue’s covered area, it’s big enough to accommodate a considerable crowd for bigger acts while also being small enough to still make it an intimate experience for audience members.
