Forty years after the release of the original Super Mario video game, the magic of Mario lives on through generations. Singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor partnered with Nintendo to celebrate Mario (MAR10) Day on March 10 — honoring the beloved Super Mario franchise and everyone’s favorite plumber from Brooklyn.

In an interview with Billboard Global, the “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” singer shared her affinity for the Mario Kart video game as a kid, saying, “My favorite track was always Rainbow Road. I wanted to live there. I’m still always trying to light up my house with rainbow LED lights. And of course, I always chose Princess Peach as my player. She’s an icon.”

As longtime Mario fans, Trainor and her family celebrate Mario Day by spreading the word about the launch of the Nintendo Switch OLED model bundle with Super Mario Bros. Wonder and a three-month individual Nintendo Switch Online membership. She shared that, growing up as a middle child with two brothers, gaming had always been a part of her life. Years later, she married a fellow gamer, actor Daryl Sabara (Spy Kids). Their shared love for Mario, Luigi, and the Super Mario franchise is a match made in heaven.

Trainor shares how she gets to feel like a kid again, amid her stressful life, saying, “I miss being a kid so much, so I get to relive my childhood through my kids. I try to show them all the great things about my childhood, and it’s so cool that this is still around and better than ever.

Now, as an adult, the Nintendo Switch has found a place in her life. The Switch became a lifeline when she was pregnant and unable to leave her home during the COVID-19 pandemic. On tour for her album Timeless last year, she played Super Mario Bros. Now, as a mother, her love for Mario lives on through her sons, Riley and Barry.

This year, Nintendo will be hosting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Community Challenge Event from March 7 to 17 — open to users with the game and an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. With a reward of 310 Platinum points, participants must be able to collectively complete 1 million in-game laps.

March 10 has been Nintendo’s official Mario holiday for the past few years. Each year, the celebration features announcements and special treats for fans around the world.
