The ’80s smash hit helps set the tone for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* as its “Big Game” trailer premiered during the Super Bowl.

“The Avengers are not coming. Who will keep the American people safe?” warns Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) as the world braces for another looming threat. Undoubtedly, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” is the American rock band’s biggest hit, making it a fitting choice for Marvel’s latest team-up film, which feels like a greatest-hits mix of villains and antiheroes already introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The two-minute trailer teases charismatic banters and over-the-top action sequences that showcase team dynamics of Marvel’s new superhero team and what this unlikely group of misfits assembles to fight against: The Void — the unstoppable, darker alter ego of the superhero Sentry (a.k.a. Bob), often referred to as Marvel’s version of Superman.

Played by Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), not much is revealed with the live-action iteration of Sentry / The Void in the trailer, so we’ll just have to wait and see when the film opens. All we know in the comics, the Void is a destructive force that feeds on Sentry’s fears and negative emotions.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns), Thunderbolts* assembles a motley crew of antiheroes and assassins to save the day: Yelena Belova / Black Widow (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker / U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).

It is also revealed that the three-piece American experimental band Son Lux will be scoring the film. They have previously scored the Academy Award-winning film, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The band revealed the news on Instagram, saying, “Marvel Studios and director Jake Schreier asked us to help create a different kind of Marvel movie, and we recognized it was an opportunity for us as a band to do something different. Thunderbolts* allowed us to create music on a larger scale with more resources than we’ve ever had before. We’re grateful for the opportunity and excited for folks to experience the result.”
