The Philippines is home to P-pop idols who are born performers capable of singing and dancing simultaneously. A handful of these talents also have experience in the domain of acting.
Whether onstage or onscreen, they are all capable of delivering a moving performance for the Filipino audience. Many music artists in the P-pop genre are trained to act so they can act in the music videos of their respective songs, while few have gone beyond to star in various professional productions with wider audiences.
Meet these P-pop stars who have already proved they can sing and dance at the same time, on top of knowing how to act just as well.
Alamat’s Taneo in ‘Marita’
Alamat‘s leader Taneo is among the cast members of Marita, an upcoming horror film based on a true story from the producer of Deleter. He previously made his acting debut with fellow member R-Ji through supporting roles in Expensive Candy. Taneo completed the Viva Artists Agency’s Basic Acting Workshop for Film and TV together with fellow member Tomas in March 2022.
BINI’s Jhoanna and BGYO’s Akira and JL in ‘Tabing Ilog’
Tabing Ilog: The Musical is a live theater adaptation of the popular show of the same name. The 2023 production features some of ABS-CBN’s most promising young talents, including BINI’s Jhoanna and BGYO members Akira and JL.
“Hindi madali pagsabayin ang BINI and Tabing Ilog pero ang sarap lang ma-feel nung pagod kapag nakikita mo yung mga taong sumusuporta at naniniwala sayo [It’s not easy to do BINI and Tabing Ilog at the same time but the exhaustion feels worth it when you see all the people who support and believe in you],” Jhoanna posted after the show’s opening performance.
BINI’s Mikha in ‘He’s Into Her Season 2’
BINI’s Mikha stepped in to replace an original cast member of He’s Into Her for the show’s second season. Head writer Vanessa Valdez sung praises for the newcomer: “We’re very happy that we discovered Mikha. She’s one of those rare finds na [who is a] first-time actress pero [but] intuitively alam niya yung [she knows the] role so nakakapagbigay siya ng [she can deliver] emotions. Actually, it’s one of those rare auditions that I’ve had with someone na [that the] first take may naramdaman ka [already makes you feel something].”
Daydream’s Kiara in ‘Snow White and The Prince’
Daydream‘s Kiara landed her first lead role in Repertory Philippines’ production of Snow White and the Prince. She is a trained stage actor together with her fellow Daydream member Pau. As a content creator, she regularly posts videos with backstage insights that peek into the world of theatre.
HORI7ON’s Marcus in ‘The Lion King’
Marcus is the youngest member of global boy group HORI7ON. He has had both screen and stage roles that taught him how to act at an early age. Most notably, Marcus starred in Regal Film’s My 2 Mommies, and toured in South Korea for The Lion King musical where he played Young Simba.
