Meghan Trainor and Jhené Aiko have joined the cast of Hey A.J.!, an upcoming Disney Jr. animated series based on Hey A.J., It’s Bedtime!, a children’s book series written by retired NFL star and Super Bowl champion Martellus Bennett.
The upcoming musical family comedy series follows A.J. Whether (Amari McCoy), a young girl, who uses her imagination to turn ordinary life moments extraordinary along with her stuffed bunny sidekick.
Aiko will be voicing A.J.’s mom Siggi Whether, while Bennett will voice A.J.’s dad Marty Whether. Trainor, on the other hand, will have a recurring role voicing the mom of Jessie (Juliet Donenfeld), A.J.’s best friend.
Bennet took to Instagram to share the news, “To every hand that has touched the clay that is AJ and helped shape her into what she is today. It takes a village to raise a child. Thank you. I’m a very lucky man to have been loved and celebrated in the shadows by those who mean the most to me every day of my life,” he adds.
Hey A.J., It’s Bedtime! was originally published in 2018 and follows A.J. and her adventures way past her bedtime, partying with monsters, dinosaurs, “jazztronauts,” the pizza man, and zombies.
The series marks Aiko’s first voice acting role, while Trainor previously had voice roles in the animated films: Smurfs: The Lost Village and Playmobil: The Movie.
The series debuts on Disney Jr. and Disney+ in 2026.
