Magdalena Bay have revealed plans for a full album movie based on their second studio album Imaginal Disk, announcing the project during the album’s one-year anniversary over the weekend.
On Instagram, the duo of Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin marked the occasion with a post thanking fans and revealing the project, “On this day, the anniversary of the record, we’d like to formally announce and acknowledge the existence of a full album movie.”
Describing it as their most ambitious project yet, the duo did not reveal a release date but hinted that it would arrive soon, promising more information in the near future.
Released on August 23, 2024, Imaginal Disk is a concept album centered on the character True, portrayed by Tenenbaum. After a CD-like object, similar to the album cover, is implanted in her forehead to create a perfect version of herself, her body rejects it, and she relearns what it means to be human in the process.
Blending synth-pop, dance pop, and electronic rock, the album explores themes of self-exploration and consciousness. It was supported by the singles “Death & Romance,” “Image,” “Tunnel Vision,” and “That’s My Floor.”
It received worldwide praise and appeared on multiple year-end best-of-2024 lists, including Billboard Philippines’ 50 Best Albums and EPs of 2024. “Image” was also named one of the 50 Best Songs of 2024.
The duo are currently on their ‘Imaginal Mystery Tour’ across North America, Europe, and Australia. It kicked off in September 2024 and is scheduled to continue through Europe in February 2026.
