Jack Black returned to host Saturday Night Live (SNL) for the first time in 20 years and channeled his inner Gerard Way in a parody of My Chemical Romance‘s “Welcome to the Black Parade.”

The comedian and one-half of the rock duo Tenacious D performed a reggae parody version of the classic rock song in the near three-minute sketch “Goth Kid on Vacation.”

The sketch features a reggae duo, played by SNL cast members Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim, performing a song that pokes fun at goth kids who spend their vacations with their families, singing, “But when there is war and struggle and pain. How do we fill our souls with joy again? We look and we laugh at: Goth kid on vacation.”

Halfway through the sketch, Black enters the scene wearing a goth-inspired outfit similar to the one Way wore in the song’s music video. He then reimagines the song with a reggae flair, changing the track’s iconic opening lines to: ‘When I was a young boy, my parents took me down to Jamaica for my high school spring break…”

The episode marked Black’s fourth time hosting the long-running live sketch comedy variety show and his first in over 20 years. He last hosted on December 17, 2005, to promote King Kong, directed by Peter Jackson.

Black shared that he experienced night terrors before hosting the show after so long, saying, “Just, you know, having lots of nightmares and night terrors, and also fond memories flooding back. It’s crazy, very exciting.”

Black previously released “I Feel Alive,” an original rock song featured in A Minecraft Movie.
