The all-so-tenacious Jack Black has released a new rock song, “I Feel Alive,” as part of the soundtrack of A Minecraft Movie, the live action adaptation of the popular 2011 sandbox game.

The song is filled with Easter eggs that connect to the beloved game, with lyrics like “I move mountains with my mind” and “I don’t wanna be running from zombies for the rest of our lives,” referencing the game’s mechanics and one of its antagonists.

The release follows a YouTube creator’s parody video that went viral in 2024, where they impersonated what a Minecraft song by Jack Black could sound like after the actor announced that aside from acting, he would also be providing his vocals for the film’s soundtrack.

Directed by Jared Hess (Nacho Libre, Napoleon Dynamite), A Minecraft Movie, stars the actor-comedian as Steve, a man obsessed with mining. In an unexpected turn of events, a party of four misfits: Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), Dawn (Danielle Brooks), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Henry (Sebastian Hansen), is pulled into the Overworld after stumbling upon a mysterious glowing rock. To return home, they must navigate the cubic wonderland, embarking on a magical quest filled with creativity and imagination.

Meanwhile, the film’s score will be composed by musician Mark Mothersbaugh, of the New Wave band DEVO fame. The group is behind the ’80s smash hit, “Whip It.”

A Minecraft Movie will be released in Philippine cinemas on April 2.
