Charli XCX‘s new film Erupcja will make its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), running from September 4 to 14, 2025.
The “Apple” hitmaker stars alongside Lena Góra (The Eastern Gate, Roving Woman); the pair also co-wrote and co-produced the film.
Erupcja, a Polish word meaning “the act of erupting,” follows the story of two women, a Polish florist (Góra) and a British tourist (Charli), who find themselves entangled in a combustible sapphic relationship.
The film is directed by Pete Ohs, known for his independent film work and directing music videos for artists like Magdalena Bay, Slow Club, Best Coast, and Wavves. It was secretly shot in Warsaw, Poland, during the summer of 2024.
Erupcja is part of the Centrepiece section of the festival, which features 19 international premieres this year. The section serves as a platform for notable and acclaimed international films from other festivals around the world, including highly anticipated premieres from both Canadian and international talents.
The cast also includes Will Madden, Jeremy O. Harris, and Agata Trzebuchowska.
It’s no doubt that the Grammy Award-winning singer is keeping busy with her venture into films this year. She’s part of the cast of the action-adventure comedy Sacrifice, which will have its world premiere in the Special Presentations section at TIFF.
She also stars in the upcoming historical fantasy film 100 Nights of Hero, which will have its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival later this August. Additionally, she made a surprise appearance as herself in an episode of Prime Video’s Overcompensating. She also served as an executive producer of the series.
