BLACKPINK‘s JISOO is set to star in her next K-drama –– which is Amazon Prime Video’s Newtopia.

The upcoming Korean drama series is set to feature a mix of genres, weaving the confines of your traditional romance story with the survival aspects of a Zombie-themed project. The plot follows the life of a soldier named Lee Jae-yoon (played by Park Jung-min) and his long-distance girlfriend, Kang Yeong-ju (played by JISOO) as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where zombies have taken over Seoul.

Newtopia is based on the popular novel Influenza, and marks the second acting project of Jisoo. Talking about his experience working with the famed K-pop superstar at an official press conference, the show’s director, Yoon Sung-hyun, shared praise for her performance stating that she constantly “worked tirelessly” and “was fully prepared” on set.

He also went on to describe her character, stating “the character has an underlying sense of humor, and Jisoo herself is incredibly humorous. That is why I wanted to work with her. I consider it a huge relief. She helped me in many ways, both as a person and as an actress. Concluding his thoughts on the matter, he further applauded JISOO for navigating “intense action scenes with a smile” despite them being physically challenging.

On another note, JISOO has been teasing the upcoming release of her first mini-album titled Amortage, which will have a total of five brand-new tracks. She also announced her first-ever solo fanmeet tour, which will hit various cities in Asia –– including that of Manila, Philippines.

Newtopia will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video beginning this February 7.
