Barbie Almalbis is set to preview new songs from her forthcoming album at the Parallel Psalms art exhibit happening this November. The upcoming exhibit marks a special collaboration between Almalbis and her husband Martin Honasan, who brings forth the visual aspect of this exhibit.

Curated by Renato Aguila, Parallel Psalms features a compelling mix of nine original paintings by Honasan and an equal number of tracks by Almalbis, with each painting named after one of her songs. Unlike traditional album exhibitions, Honasan and Almalbis embarked on their creative journeys in parallel rather than in direct response to each other. Honasan’s vibrant pieces, created independently of the music, draw on his unique use of acrylics, aerosols, and fabric — capturing the essence of human emotion through bold colors and expressive forms.

As the exhibit draws closer, Almalbis’s songs will provide a reflective lens through which audiences can engage with Honasan’s artwork. This approach not only celebrates their individual creative paths, but also emphasizes the shared themes of love, family, and personal growth that resonate deeply in both their works.

With the tracks serving as the first preview from Almalbis’s upcoming record (due this January 2025), attendees at the exhibit will be among the first to experience Almalbis’s new musical direction, showcasing fresh sonic textures and a more candid vocal style. As stated by the official press release, her lyrics promise to weave relatable narratives that invite listeners into a deeper conversation about life’s joys and challenges.

Parallel Psalms is set to take place at the White Walls Gallery in Makati and is scheduled to open on November 6, 2024.
