Jolianne explores the beauty of the unfamiliarity of first love in her new single, “Daanan,” released through Sony Music Entertainment.
“Daanan” marks her first independently written Filipino song and follows her breakthrough single, “Palayo sa Mundo,” a collaboration with Arthur Nery.
The track talks about the experience of finding comfort and solace in another person who comes into your life at an unexpected time. The narrative focuses on how love is built through progressive, small acts of vulnerability, familiarity, and simply getting the timing right, rather than being felt and seen as something perfect and immediate.
More than just a love song, “Daanan” is an ode to falling in love for the first time and learning to let someone into your life little by little. “It’s about choosing to grow into love instead of rushing toward it and discovering yourself through the eyes of someone who sees you completely,” the Cebu-born artist shares.
“Sometimes, you don’t know exactly where the road will lead — you just know that you want to keep walking, hand in hand with someone, until you find out together,” she adds.
Writing her first song in Filipino pushed her out of her comfort zone as an artist. “My comfort languages as a writer are English and Bisaya, so writing in Filipino felt like entering an entirely new space. It made me feel like a beginner all over again,” she explains.
Produced by Luke April, the song evolved from the melody Jolianne initially recorded as a voice note into an intimate track that gradually expands into a full orchestral arrangement, mirroring the idea of uncertainty turning into an act of surrender.
