KZ Tandingan is back with a new single “KAYA,” an empowering anthem released via Cornerstone Entertainment.

The track marks Asia’s Soul Supreme’s first project as an independent artist since March. “I’m finally an independent artist. Of course, with the support of my former home, Star Music, and my management, Cornerstone,” she shared on Instagram.

“KAYA” was written by MC Einstein and produced by Thyro. Talking about the song’s creative process, Tandingan shared that she had been wanting to collaborate with Thyro for a long time, stating that “the stars have finally aligned.”

The song further opens up a different side of what her fans and listeners know about her as an artist. Tandingan also noted that it would sound cliché for her to say that she is doing something new and that has never been done before. But in truth, this is something she hasn’t done before.

“The vibe is very KZ, but the composition of the song, ‘yung tunog (sound), ‘yung delivery, it’s something very different,” she adds.

At the end of the day, this new era is all about her expressing herself and making music she can claim as her own. Backed by the support and encouragement of her husband, TJ Monterde, it is high time for her to finally let loose and do whatever she wants now that she has been in the industry for over a decade.

Perfectly capturing this sentiment, the message of the song reflects it entirely. “Wag mo na gawin kung hindi mo rin balak galingan.” (Don’t do it if you don’t even intend to do your best), Tandingan sings in the chorus.
