ALYSON are feeling quite blue (literally) on their latest single, titled “KUNG SAKALING TANAWIN.”
The new single sees the city pop quintet delving deeper into the Manila Sound genre they’ve previously tapped into, resulting in a sentimental, yet equally romantic ballad that hits you right in the feels. With the use of soul-stirring melodies and actual orchestral arrangements, “KUNG SAKALING TANAWIN” pays homage to the very best aspects of Manila Sound pioneers like Rey Valera, Rico J Puno, and The Boyfriends, while infusing it with the modern edge of love themes prevalent in beloved K-drama television shows and their jazz-pop tendencies.
“‘KUNG SAKALING TANAWIN’ naturally leaned more into Manila Sound territory compared to our usual tendencies,” said frontman and vocalist Pio Ligot in an official press statement. “The whole orchestra was composed of very talented and experienced players that gave their all in producing the sounds you hear,” he shares matter-of-factly. “Sana matandaan natin na AI (Hopefully we can remember that AI) can only copy the form but never the expression of soul and emotion, of which humans do best,” he continued.
“We knew that MIDI or sampled instruments would not give us the expressive human feel of real players, so we opted for a large team of session musicians for our orchestra,” notes drummer Marcus Mababangloob, who also served as the producer of the single.
Together with the release of the single on streaming and digital platforms worldwide, ALYSON also dropped an accompanying music video (and short film), which stars the band as a fictionalized version of themselves, together with renowned actor and filmmaker Jun Sabayton. The video was directed by the acclaimed director Kris Cazin, who also directed the music videos for Cup of Joe‘s “Multo,” IV OF SPADES‘ “Nanaman” and “Suliranin,” as well as Earl Agustin‘s “Pag-Ibig ng Ikaw At Ako.”

“KUNG SAKALING TANAWIN” marks the second single off the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, set to be titled After Ours. The track was preceded by the single “IKAW LAGI,” a beach-y, summertime city pop anthem that closes off the band’s Definitely, Love! era. It also came with an official music video, which saw the band celebrating a Filipino pool party to the best of their capabilities.
ALYSON’s After Ours is set to be the long-awaited follow-up to their 2023 debut record, Definitely Love! The album was released to critical acclaim upon its release, and spawned viral singles such as “Feels So Good” and “Summer Nights,” which garnered prominence on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Additionally, the album was dropped on a limited edition red vinyl format for its first anniversary, though is now sold out and commands high prices on the vinyl aftermarket.
