DreamWorks Animation has just announced their latest animated film, titled Forgotten Island, which is set to star an abundance of Filipino acting and musical talents.

The forthcoming feature film is set to feature the multi-awarded hitmaking musician H.E.R. and renowned actress Liza Soberano in the film’s lead roles, which will see them star in the roles of lifelong best friends Jo (H.E.R.) and Raissa (Soberano), who find themselves stuck on the magical and forgotten island Nakali, with the only way home requiring the loss of their cherished memories together.

They will be joined by fellow talents like Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Dave Franco, and Jenny Slate, while directing duties are handed off to Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado –– who both also penned the film’s screenplay that focuses on an island rooted in Philippine mythology.

Forgotten Island is set to release theatrically worldwide next year on September 25, 2026, and marks the third collaboration for Crawford and producer Mark Swift. The pair previously worked together on DreamWorks Animation‘s 2022 Academy Award-nominated hit film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Additionally, the film will feature original compositions by Filipino-American composer Nathan Matthew David, who will create the score.

The highly anticipated animated film marks H.E.R.’s latest acting role, following her acclaimed performance in the 2023 remake of The Color Purple, and her portrayal of Belle in Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration alongside Josh Groban, who played the Beast. For Soberano, it marks her second major role in a Hollywood production, following her star-making performance in the cult-classic horror comedy, Lisa Frankenstein.

Over the last few years, DreamWorks has dropped several successful releases, such as the Academy Award-nominated film The Wild Robot, a sequel to The Bad Guys from earlier this year, and even a well-received How to Train Your Dragon live-action remake. The studio also has other high-profile projects on the horizon, with the fifth Shrek film set to be released, as well as a sequel to the live-action How To Train Your Dragon film both lined up for 2027.
