Philippine media powerhouse GMA Network is continuing its expansion into the realm of music, having announced a brand new 50:50 joint venture with Viva Records to produce, market, and distribute music, in addition to managing artists and publishing songs.
In a statement disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange, GMA mentioned that the new company is set to begin its operations in 2026, and will be backed by an initial paid-in capital of Php 2 Million and is registered by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The forthcoming joint venture is also set to combine the network’s broadcast influence with Viva’s established foothold in music production, aiming to consolidate resources and expertise across both domestic and international markets.
Under this newly minted deal, GMA and Viva will each appoint three directors to the board, allowing both parties to share the chairmanship. Viva will be naming the company’s President and Assistant Corporate Secretary, while GMA will be the one designating the Treasurer and Corporate Secretary.
Additionally, GMA noted that the new production firm is expected to have a positive impact on its business, considering that “it will share resources, knowledge as well as expertise with those established in the music industry.” “[The joint venture firm] is expected to contribute to GMA’s medium to long-term business performance,” their statement concluded.
Earlier this May, GMA’s President Gilberto R. Duavit Jr. had noted the network’s willingness to explore “new and creative ways” to drive growth amid shifting viewer habits in an effort to diversify revenue streams beyond television. Also this year, the network announced their partnership with ABS-CBN Music, which saw them launch Michelle Dee as the first artist at the forefront of this collaboration.
From a financial standpoint, GMA’s performance remains strong — as of the second quarter of the year (which ended in June), attributable net income surged nearly threefold to PHP 1.17 billion from PHP 400.5 million a year earlier, as gross revenues climbed 30% to PHP 5.41 billion. Even for the first half of 2025, net income reached PHP 1.97 billion, up from PHP 604.62 million last year.
