It’s a star-studded affair as musicians St. Vincent (Annie Clark), Dijon, and Flock of Dimes (Jenn Wasner) — along with actors Jacob Elordi and Cristin Milioti — audition to replace Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon in the music video for “Day One,” a track from their fifth studio album, SABLE, fABLE.
Directed by Jos Diaz Contreras, the video takes place in a dystopian future where the “Skinny Love” singer has retired, and a search for his replacement unfolds through a series of audition tapes. A message at the start of the video reads: “In 2025, Bon Iver announced his retirement, and the search began for his replacement. These are the audition tapes.”
A handful of hopefuls lip-sync to the song, including musicians like Clark, Dijon, and Wasner. Clark concluded her ‘All Born Screaming Tour’ at the Royal Albert Hall in September. The tour supported St. Vincent’s seventh studio album and marked her debut in Manila earlier this year.

Dijon, on the other hand, was featured in Justin Bieber’s eighth studio album, Swag II, and made his acting debut in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, along with fellow musicians Alana Haim of HAIM, Teyana Taylor, and rapper Junglepussy.
Euphoria actor Jacob Elordi sports a fake beard and is almost unrecognizable in a brief cameo. He will be seen next as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, premiering on Netflix this November.
Additionally, Milioti, who recently won an Emmy for her role in the HBO series The Penguin, joins in to sing along. The appearance also marks a reunion with Vernon, as she previously appeared as a character, and the mother of his child, in the SABLE, fABLE companion behind-the-scenes book.
