Finn Wolfhard To Direct, Co-Write ’80s Band The Replacements Biopic
The Stranger Things star sets his sights on his next directorial effort after co-directing the 2023 horror film, Hell of a Summer.

Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard is set to direct and co-write an upcoming biopic based on the ’80s band The Replacements.
The upcoming project is next in line after Wolfhard wraps up the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things, with Volume One premiering on November 26, 2025, with four episodes.
Wolfhard is teaming up with his father, Eric Wolfhard, to co-write the project, along with producer Rich Peete, in adapting veteran music critic and Grammy-winning essayist Bob Mehr’s biography Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements.
The 2016 biography is a definitive account of the Minneapolis-based punk band, which helped shape the American alternative rock scene and paved the way for ’90s bands like Nirvana and Green Day.
Formed in 1979, the band originally consisted of vocalist and guitarist Paul Westerberg, guitarist Bob Stinson, bass guitarist Tommy Stinson, and drummer Chris Mars. Slim Dunlap joined as a guitarist after Stinson was kicked out in 1986, while Steve Foley replaced Mars on drums in 1990.
In 2023, Wolfhard made his directing debut with the Neon horror film Hell of a Summer, a co-directing, co-writing, and co-producing effort with fellow actor Billy Bryk (Ghostbusters: Afterlife).
Beyond the world of filmmaking, Wolfhard is also pursuing a music career. He was the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the Vancouver-based rock band, Calpurnia, which disbanded in 2019. Soon after, he started a new band, The Aubreys, along with drummer Malcolm Craig.
He is currently embarking on The Objection! Tour, which kicked off in North America in June and continued in Europe in September.
