Tame Impala is ready to admit he’s a “Loser” on his newly released single.

As you’d expect, the latest single from the psychedelic-rock music project of Kevin Parker features a number of self-depricating lyrics that complement the turbulent, funk-laden guitar riff on the track. It’s considerably more similar in nature to his previous discography than his prior single, “End of Summer,” serving as an exciting teaser for what fans and casual listeners can expect from his forthcoming studio album.

Alongside the single, an accompanying music video was also released, featuring Stranger Things star Joe Keery (better known for his chart-topping musical outfit Djo) and directed by Sam Kristofski. The visualizer features Keery reeling from the immediate aftermath of a breakup, following the actor as he navigates the rest of the day with disdain, while also being down on luck. What’s presented of Keery’s experiences in the short film perfectly mirrors the lyricism penned by Parker, a fact that’s echoed when Keery’s figure is momentarily replaced by Kevin Parker — who, wearing the same haircut and outfit, sighs and mutters a hopeless “f*ck”— before it flashes back to the actor.

“Loser” is Tame Impala’s latest single, following the release of the electronic-house track, “End of Summer.” At the time of the song’s release, an accompanying visual narrative was also dropped online, directed by multi-disciplinary artist Julian Klincewicz. Previous teasers of the video showcased a couple together in the woods, right before a stranger walks up to them and rides off on their motorbike — all shot in night vision mode.

Both “Loser” and “End of Summer” mark his first releases under Columbia Records, and have been heavily teased to be a part of Parker’s upcoming studio album. In addition to the release of “Loner,” a cryptic announcement was also shared to fans subscribed to his newsletter, with the post showcasing a round, orange shape that only says the word ‘tomorrow.’

Though Parker has not released solo music over the last few years, he has released various collaborations with several of his peers, including “New Gold” with Gorillaz and Bootie Brown, “No More Lies” with Thundercat, as well as “One Night/All Night” and “Neverender” with Justice. He also contributed to two blockbuster soundtracks, releasing “Journey To The Real World” for Barbie, and “Wings of Time” for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and contributed significantly to the production of Dua Lipa‘s third album, Radical Optimism.
