The official trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos‘ upcoming sci-fi black comedy film Bugonia has been released and it features a sinister remix of Chappell Roan’s hit “Good Luck, Babe!”
The film follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men, Teddy (Jesse Plemons) and Don (Aidan Delbis), who abduct Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone), the CEO of a major pharmaceutical company, believing she is an alien intent on destroying Earth.
The trailer opens with Roan’s breakout 2024 synth-pop hit “Good Luck, Babe!” with Stone’s CEO character delivering a tone-deaf corporate spiel about diversity, with the tone suddenly shifting in classic Lanthimos surrealist paranoia. It also reveals Stone’s shaved head after her captors abduct her character and claim it is to prevent her from “contacting [her] mothership.”
Bugonia is an English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean cult film Save the Green Planet! and marks the fourth collaboration between Lanthimos and Stone, following 2018’s The Favourite, 2023’s Poor Things, and 2024’s Kinds of Kindness. It had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and received an almost seven-minute ovation from the audience. It will have its wide release in the United States on October 31.
There is no word yet on a Philippine release; however, the QCinema International Film Festival previously featured Poor Things in its 2023 lineup. This year’s edition will run from November 14 to 23, potentially giving local audiences a chance to see the film.
