Blue’s Clues & You! host Josh Dela Cruz is set to make his Philippine theater debut this August, joining the Philippine staging of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater (S-PAT), playing the dual roles of Prince Charming and The Wolf.

Dela Cruz joins an already star-studded cast that includes Lea Salonga, Eugene Domingo, Mark Bautista, Nyoy Volante, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, Nic Chien, Arielle Jacobs, and Carla Guevara Laforteza.

“It has always been my dream to perform in a musical in my home country,” Dela Cruz shared. “Getting the opportunity to perform with Filipino legends is icing on the cake. I can’t wait to share this story with my Kababayans.”

Known for hosting the 2019 revival of Blue’s Clues on Nickelodeon, Dela Cruz boasts a strong background in the world of theater. He previously appeared on Broadway and off-Broadway in productions such as Aladdin, Here Lies Love, The King and I, and Merrily We Roll Along.

Reflecting on Into the Woods, Dela Cruz praised its themes: “It explores the loss of innocence and presents the consequences of how we deal with that change. We can either dwell on it or choose to be present, move forward, and live our lives to the fullest. It’s a simple idea, but something I try to remind myself of every day.”

Born in the United Arab Emirates to Bicolano and Ilocano parents, Dela Cruz moved to the United States at a young age. There, he fell in love for music and performing arts within the Filipino-American community.

Outside of acting, Dela Cruz is also an advocate for diversity, inclusion, and environmental conservation. He last visited the Philippines to support the Masungi Georeserve, a conservation project in Tanay, Rizal.
