HAIM have finally dropped their latest studio album, I quit.
The newly released fifteen-track record sees the beloved musical trio tapping into more rock-leaning sounds that distinctly embody the Californian soul –– one that is free-spirited in nature. Featuring production from Rostam Batmanglij, Buddy Ross, Ariel Rechstaid, and Daniel Haim herself, the entire collection of tracks sees the renowned set of sisters venturing into both new and unfamiliar sonic territories, making this record a necessary step forward for the group and their artistry. To their benefit, the result is one salty breakup album that surely leaves a strong impression on its listeners.
I quit features the critically acclaimed set of singles released over these past few months, such as “Relationships”, “Down to be Wrong”, “Everybody’s trying to figure me out”, and “Take me back” –– all of which featured 2000s paparazzi-inspired cover artwork. The music videos and cover artworks for these singles featured popular actors such as Drew Starkey, Logan Lerman, and Will Poulter, giving each video a viral edge of its own.
The record marks HAIM’s fourth studio album and first record in the last five years, following 2020’s acclaimed Women in Music Pt. III, and their single “Home” to the original soundtrack of Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster film, Barbie, in 2023. Both albums’ covers were shot by the award-winning filmmaker, Paul Thomas Anderson, whom the group had previously described as an essential “creative partner.”
As HAIM prepares to embark on their I Quit World Tour in September of this year, they are also set to take the stage at this year’s Fuji Rock Music Festival at the Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The group will be performing along the likes of renowned DJ Fred again…, the popular funk band Vulfpeck, and the alternative-indie group Vampire Weekend.
