Here she goes again! As she continues to dominate with her pop star status, Sabrina Carpenter is being eyed for a role in the third Mamma Mia! film

Judy Craymer, the creator and producer of the Mamma Mia! franchise, recently teased the possibility of the Grammy-winning singer joining the long-awaited third installment, saying, “She’d be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep.”

Carpenter already has some ties to the world of Mamma Mia!. In an interview with ABC News last year, Amanda Seyfried, who played Sophie Sheridan in the first two films, discussed the possibility of a third film and even campaigned for Carpenter to join the cast, saying, “I’m an actor. I’ll do it. If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen.”

Carpenter is no stranger to the the music of ABBA. During her ‘Short ‘n Sweet’ Tour, she frequently performed ABBA covers, including “Mamma Mia” and “Lay All Your Love on Me.”

While rumors have circulated that the third film might be shelved, Craymer insists the project is very much alive and in development, saying, “We know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen.”

Mamma Mia! began as a hit stage production in 1999, featuring iconic songs by ABBA, and later inspired two successful film adaptations: Mamma Mia! in 2008 and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018. The musical returns to Broadway in New York City for a limited six-month engagement at the Winter Garden Theatre. Performances begin on August 2, 2025, with the official opening on August 14, 2025, and run through February 1, 2026.
