“Handlebars” is just one of the many prolific collaborations on JENNIE’s debut album Ruby, which features the K-pop superstar embracing a variety of genres that are both foreign and familiar to her. With an eclectic mix of pop, ballads, reggaeton, hip-hop, and even R&B, JENNIE and her list of guest features, such as Doechii, Dominic Fike, FKJ, Childish Gambino, and Kali Uchis, are able to tap into various soundscapes that expand the BLACKPINK soloist’s sonic capabilities. The album features production from illustrious names like Mike Will Made It, Dem Jointz, Pluss, 30 Roc, Rob Bisel, Serban Cazan, Diplo, El Guincho, FKJ, Sam Homaee, Jonas Jeberg, and the pop icon herself among several others — all of whom have been able to bring the world of Ruby to life.
Ruby marks the first-ever studio album from JENNIE, following the release of her solo singles “Solo” and “You & Me” that were released during her time at YG Entertainment. Though JENNIE has kept herself busy with collaborations with artists like ZICO, Matt Champion, and The Weeknd, her solo singles off of Ruby have each debuted within Billboard Philippines‘ Hot 100 chart, with “Mantra” debuting at No. 8, “Love Hangover” featuring Dominic Fike at No. 16, and “ExtraL” featuring Doechii at No. 22.
