Gracie Abrams is stepping into the world of film, making her feature debut in the lead role of Please, produced by A24.
The film will be written and directed by Dutch filmmaker Halina Reijn, who previously helmed the A24 projects Bodies Bodies Bodies, a black comedy horror, and the erotic thriller Babygirl. While plot details and the overall vibe of Please remain under wraps, those familiar with Reijn’s work may have an idea of her filmmaking style.
As for Abrams, her foray into the world of cinema fits like a glove as the daughter of J.J. Abrams, who’s known for directing the Star Wars sequels The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker, as well as the rebooted Star Trek films — Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. He also created and produced acclaimed TV shows such as Lost, Alias, and Felicity.
This venture marks a bold step as she explores opportunities beyond music. Since 2019, she has steadily grown, releasing extended plays (EPs) such as Minor and This Is What It Feels Like. In 2023, she released her debut album, Good Riddance, which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
Her follow-up album, The Secret of Us, released a year later, became her breakthrough and biggest release to date, featuring hit tracks like “That’s So True,” “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” and “Close to You.”
