Sponge Cola want you to meet “Kelly.”
The renowned four-piece rock band has just announced their upcoming single and teased it through quite a humorous manner. “Our 11/11 offering: ‘Bagong kanta! Sino ba si Kelly? Kilalanin sya sa November 15,” the band stated on their official Instagram page. (“Our 11/11 offering: A new song! Who is Kelly? Meet her on November 15.”)
“Kelly” marks the group’s latest single, following the release of “Isang Tugon” and the Korean version of “Tatlong Buwan.” Just last year, Sponge Cola released their ninth studio album, Hometown Part Two, which served as the complementary follow-up to 2022’s Hometown. The record featured nine brand new tracks added on to the original album, which included the hit singles “Siguro Nga” and “Kung Ako ang Pumiling Tapusing Ito.” It also included a duet with Morissette, on the track “So Close,” as well as another one on an acoustic rendition of “Siguro Nga” with Kai Honasan.
Since their formation between the years of 1998 and 2002, Sponge Cola have been recognized for their distinct blend of alternative rock, pop-punk, and emo influences. Comprised of vocalist and guitarist Yael Yuzon, lead guitarist Armo Armovit, bassist Gosh Dilay, and drummer Tedmark Cruz, the band quickly gained popularity with their heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies, becoming one of the most beloved acts in the Filipino music scene. Their breakthrough came with hits like “Jeepney,” “Kay Tagal Kitang Hinihintay,” and “Di Na Mababawi,” which resonated with fans through their emotionally charged songs and relatable themes.
Over the years, the band has released a succession of popular albums, earning both commercial success and a devoted following in the Philippines and beyond.
