Red Velvet‘s Irene has finally made her solo debut this month.
On November 26, the leader of the “Cosmic” K-pop hitmakers released her debut solo mini-album, entitled Like A Flower. It features a total of 8 tracks notable for their mix of synth-driven, vibrant pop elements, ethereal ballad sounds, and hints of R&B. Irene’s debut was first announced by her label SM Entertainment earlier this month on November 4.
Alongside the release of the EP, Irene also premiered a dreamy accompanying music video for the title track which you can watch below:
Like A Flower makes Irene the fourth member of Red Velvet to make their solo debut. It follows Wendy‘s Like Water and Joy‘s Hello, which were both released in 2021; and Seulgi‘s 28 Reasons in 2022. Prior to her solo debut, Irene also debuted in a sub-unit alongside Seulgi, with the duo having released their first mini album Monster in 2020.
While the new EP marks her official solo debut, Irene has done work on songs as a soloist before. Most notably, she recorded “A White Night” for the soundtrack of the 2021 film Double Patty, which starred her (under her real name, Bae Joo Hyun) alongside Shin Seung Ho of Alchemy of Souls fame.
As a group, Red Velvet were previously in Manila earlier this year as part of their 10th anniversary fan concert tour ‘HAPPINESS : My Dear, ReVe1uv’ at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City last September 14. The quintet performed a setlist showcasing hits and fan-favorites spanning their entire career — from 2014 to 2024 — for their Filipino ReVeluv’s.
