Olivia Rodrigo has just given fans a brand new teaser off her forthcoming album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, with her most recent Saturday Night Live performance.
The Filipina-American pop sensation performed double duties as both the guest musical performer and host at last weekend’s iteration of the famed television program, wherein she performed two tracks from her upcoming record. As expected, she performed the album’s lead single, “drop dead,” but she surprised those in the audience with an unexpected performance of a yet-to-be-released song, titled “begged.”
On the track, Rodrigo sings about desperately wanting more affection from an avoidant partner. Through a series of confessional verses, the pop star croons about how her requests just make her feel worse (if needy), while also knowing that instead of naturally being shown love, she has to beg for it from her lover. “So, I’m patient, you’re learning, pretend it’s not hurting, ‘Cause they say it’s a virtue to not let good love slip away, So, I’m cool and forgiving, I’ll take what you’rе giving, But nothing’s quite enough when I know that to gеt it, I begged. Yeah, to get it, I begged,” goes the chorus of the song.

Rodrigo’s musical performances on Saturday Night Live were presented by actor Connor Storie and Blondie’s very own icon, Debbie Harry, and also featured a guest appearance from beloved chamber-pop musician, Weyes Blood. Yet aside from her expertise as a musician, the “drop dead” hitmaker also acted in a total of seven sketches on the variety program, which saw her showcase both her comedic chops and prowess as an actress.
Her new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, is scheduled to be released this June 12, 2026 (coinciding with the Philippines’ independence day), and will feature a total of thirteen tracks. The album features contributions from longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, as well as Grammy-winning songwriter Amy Allen, among others.
On the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 chart (dated May 2, 2026), Rodrigo’s “drop dead” made an impressive debut at the No. 8 spot, showcasing its impressive reach and resonance with Filipino listeners. Additionally, the track also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard US Hot 100 chart, making Rodrigo the first musician to have all three of her lead singles debut atop the esteemed musical chart.
