M1ss Jade So unveils her devilish drag look through her latest single, “BAPHOMETA,” produced by longtime collaborator Naive Supreme and released under Offshore Music.
The esoteric drag queen superstar transforms into “Baphomet,” an occult figure she interpreted for the “Wildlife Couture” category during the fourth episode of Drag Race Down Under vs. the World Season 1, where she advanced to the semifinals, as of this writing. She also won a RuBadge for her look and creation.
She drew inspiration from her initial idea of dressing up as a goat, later developing it into an adaptation that brought her own twisted, obscure, and personal vision to life.
“I like creating art that is provocative,” M1ss Jade So shares. Before “BAPHOMETA,” she released “GODDESSA” in August.
“Pette [Shabu] (co-writer) and I didn’t want ‘BAPHOMETA’ to feel purely sinister or serious,” she adds. “We wanted it to have this mad, destructive but almost playful energy, where you’re having fun with something that is actually quite dark underneath.”
She adds that she is drawn to the figure because of what it represents: the intriguing duality of the feminine and masculine, light and darkness, and the mortal and divine.
“[Those ideas] felt very connected to my own experience as a drag artist, where I constantly play with identity, beauty, and transformation,” she adds.
