Louis Tomlinson has just announced his long awaited comeback to music with the release of his upcoming album, titled How Did I Get Here?
The former One Direction member broke the news of its release by dropping its first single “Lemonade,” which serves as the first teaser off the record before its forthcoming release in January 23, 2026. In an official press statement, Tomlinson described the album as “the record I always deserved to make.” “My bread and butter is my honesty. I genuinely wear my heart on my sleeve, and I hope it comes through in the music. I’m still learning and getting better as a singer and a songwriter. [Because] for the first time now, I’m allowing myself to be the artist I’d always hoped to be,” he continued.
Describing “Lemonade,” he also revealed that “the most important thing was for the first single to sound ambitious sonically. It had to be big and fun. To me, ‘Lemonade’ really has instant and natural personality. It ended up being the perfect way to begin this chapter.” The song’s mix of tight funk guitars, shimmering keys, and organic percussion results in a captivating single that marks a worthy entry point for this new era he’s kicking off.
Since One Direction’s indefinite hiatus in 2016, Tomlinson formally introduced himself as a solo artist with his debut album Walls, and saw him embrace a new set of genres such as Britpop and indie rock. Both “Lemonade” and How Did I Get Here? mark Tomlinson’s latest musical releases since dropping his live album, aptly titled LIVE, last year — which included special live renditions of his performances from his Louis Tomlinson World Tour and the Faith in the Future World Tour. He also dropped his sophomore album Faith in the Future back in 2022, which included the singles “Bigger Than Me,” “Out of My System,” and “Silver Tongues.”
Outside of music, Tomlinson also released the documentary feature film, All of Those Voices, which chronicled his personal journey of transitioning from a member of One Direction to a solo musician.
