Lorde has just released the second single off of her highly anticipated album Virgin, titled “Man of the Year.”
The new single was released earlier today (May 29, 2025), and features the Kiwi pop sensation tackling themes of liberation and rebirth about her own identity. The release was accompanied by a music video directed by Grant Singer, which was shot on 35mm film and features Lorde grappling with her inner turmoil via a performative dance. Check it out below:
The track was first announced via the Kiwi pop star’s official social media channels. “Man Of The Year. An offering from really deep inside me. The song I’m proudest of on Virgin,” she captioned on her post. Together with the announcement, Lorde also posted a short fifteen-second snippet of the track on her official TikTok page.
“Man Of The Year” marks the second single off Lorde’s upcoming album, Virgin, scheduled to be released this June 27, 2025. The record was first announced alongside the release of her comeback single “What Was That,” which marked her first major release since 2021’s Solar Power. Virgin features production and collaborations from Jim E-Stack, Dan Nigro, and Devonte Haynes, among others.
She also teased the track during her recent Met Gala appearance and opened up about the track for her cover story with Rolling Stone magazine. “I felt like stopping taking my birth control, I had cut some sort of cord between myself and this regulated femininity,” said the 28-year-old pop star to the publication. “It sounds crazy, but I felt that all of a sudden, I was off the map of femininity. And I totally believed that that allowed things to open up.”
