Lola Amour have just been honored with a special award at the 2025 Music Awards Japan (MAJ).

The beloved alternative band was just honored with the Special Award for Philippine Popular Music for their chart-breaking hit single, “Raining In Manila”, at the inaugural ceremony held at Rohm Theatre in Kyoto, Japan. Aside from honoring the track’s popularity in the Philippines, the award marks a full-circle moment for the seven-piece group, given that the awarded single was the band’s first foray into the city pop genre.

In an exclusive statement shared with Billboard Philippines, Lola Amour says, “It’s a tremendous honor to receive this recognition in Japan—especially for our song “Raining in Manila. “This track holds a special place in our hearts, and it was actually inspired by the themes of Japanese city pop in the ’80s and Tatsuro Yamashita’s “Sparkle.”

“To receive an award in front of incredible musicians we look up to like Fuji Kaze, Yoasobi, Creepy Nuts, feels so surreal! We thank everyone for all the support!” they continued. Though the band was unable to attend the 2025 Music Awards Japan ceremony, the band’s longtime manager, Mika Ordoñez, flew to Kyoto to accept the award on their behalf.

Alongside Lola Amour, other notable Special Awardees for the Popular Music category included SEVENTEEN (South Korea), Jeff Satur (Thailand), Zhou Shen (China), Salma Salsabil (Indonesia), and Tùng Dương (Vietnam) –– all of whom received recognition for their outstanding work in their respective countries.

This newly-minted award marks the latest award recognition for Lola Amour and their hit song, following their clean sweep at the 2024 Awit Awards, wherein they took home a total of four nods, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Recording, and Best Parody Recording for their Michael V. collaboration, “Waiting Here Sa Pila.” Since the track’s initial release back in June of 2023, “Raining In Manila” has dominated the cultural landscape of the Philippines and beyond, accumulating hundreds of millions of streams worldwide, becoming viral across various social media platforms, and earning them an international following.

Just recently, the group dropped their latest single “Dance With My Mistakes,” which was produced by international collaborators Cuurley and Hyuk Shin. It marked their latest release following their eponymous debut album, which came out in April 2024. The band also recently announced their forthcoming track, titled “Misbehave,” and a free concert that’s set to celebrate their ninth anniversary as a band in Luneta Park, Manila.
