JENNIE gives fans a first glimpse of her upcoming single, “Less Than A Lover,” with a cinematic rollout of teasers, building up to her first official solo release since her 2025 critically-acclaimed album, Ruby.
First sparking speculation on July 19, 2026, the BLACKPINK member posted a Polaroid photo to her Instagram story featuring herself leaning on the shoulder of an unidentified man, whose face was covered with a heart emoji. The post quickly fueled online discourse, with fans speculating whether it was a “soft launch” of a relationship or a teaser for a new project.

Shortly afterward, JENNIE released the first official teaser for “Less Than A Lover.” The image features an ambient street in Spain, with a couple standing at the center complemented by the words: “The summer I chose to pause the love story.” The teaser also credits the South Korean artist as the project’s director, writer, and music producer, highlighting her extensive creative involvement on the upcoming project.

On July 20, 2026, the singer officially confirmed on social media that her new single will be released on July 24, 2026 at 12PM PHT. The accompanying teaser offered a clearer look at the mystery man, revealing him to be Taiwan-born model Nah Kai, who appears alongside JENNIE through the window of a blue pickup truck. The 2002-born model-actor has also previously starred in the music video for “Blue” by SEVENTEEN‘s DK and Seungkwan.
Building further anticipation, a third teaser image arrived on July 21, 2026, showing the two running hand in hand through an open field, continuing the single’s romantic, cinematic look.
With its vintage, lo-fi sound, “Less Than A Lover” has already been performed live by the South Korean act during her recent festival appearances, including Governors Ball Music Festival, Roskilde Festival, Open’er Festival, and Mad Cool Festival.
