GOT7 have finally made their return after nearly three years.
On January 20, 2025 (Monday), the “Hard Carry” hitmakers released their new mini-album WINTER HEPTAGON, marking their first comeback as whole group since the release of their self-titled EP back in May 2022. According to a press statement, WINTER HEPTAGON refers to “the seven stars that are always present but more visible in winter,” symbolizing the members of GOT7 “who shine even brighter when they come together.” This also celebrates the septet’s — JAY B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom — 11th anniversary since their debut.
“All of us are so happy and thrilled to make a comeback as GOT7, stated member Mark during a press conference. “We actually wanted to return earlier, but it took some time due to certain circumstances. We are working hard to meet our fans after such a long time, and we can’t wait to spend some fun time with them on stage.
According to a press statement, WINTER HEPTAGON is “the result of the concerted efforts of all seven members, who were eager to repay their fans’ love in celebration of the 11th anniversary of their debut.” Teaming up with Kakao Entertainment, “NANANA” hitmakers’ newest release was planned and produced the aim of “showcasing high-quality content that resonates with the group’s global fans,” making “the best use of its music planning, production and marketing capabilities” to craft a collection of songs that highlights “the group’s distinctive musical color and magnetism.”
WINTER HEPTAGON contains a total of nine songs, including the lead track “PYTHON,” which was produced by member BamBam and explores “the inescapable fate of those destined to be together.” It was released alongside an accompanying music video, which you can watch below:
All nine tracks on WINTER HEPTAGON saw the participation of all members of the group during the creative process. Namely, this includes Jackson and Youngjae on “SMOOTH” and “Our Youth” respectively. In addition, Yugyeom helped shape “REMEMBER,” while JAY B and BamBam played crucial roles in the creation of “Darling” and “TIDAL WAVE” respectively. Meanwhile, Mark and Jinyoung both a hand making “OUT THE DOOR” and “her.” Notably, the JAY B-composed track “Yours Truly” contains lyrics from all the members in an effort to express heartwarming messages to their dedicated followers — their ‘driving force.’
“This album contains songs produced by each of the members. We have high expectations for it, as it not only features GOT7’s music, but also the distinctive musical colors each of us represents,” stated Jackson on their roles in creating the new songs. “I am especially grateful to our leader [JAY B], who has guided us to be here together.”
“‘WINTER HEPTAGON’ represents the idea that while each of us can shine on our own, we shine even brighter when we come together in winter,” emphasized leader JAY B when asked how the seven of them define their musical identity as a group. He explains they come with the idea for the album because the group debuted during the wintertime, revealing how the seven of them also reflected “a lot on [their] musical identity and concluded that [they] are like chameleons,” who are “capable of adapting to any direction.”
The album’s release is slated to be followed by a concert dubbed ‘NESFEST,’ which will be held at SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Seoul this February 1 and 2, 2025. The group is expected to perform some of the news songs for the first time. “We will do our best in every way so that we and our fans can look back on this time and the concert as “hot and happy” moments in the future,” said Jinyoung. “We will meet our followers through various content that we have been preparing, and we are excited for its release. We cannot wait to meet our fans soon.”
“Our fans who support us are the driving force behind our continued unity. We still enjoy being together as a group, too,” emphasized Youngjae when asked what has motivated GOT7 to keep going after more than a decade together already. “As I approach my twelfth year in my singing career, and as a member of GOT7, I always try to take responsibility for everything. The team is one, so I think taking care of and protecting myself is equivalent to taking care of and protecting the team. Our next goal might be to hold stadium concerts. We want to perform in front of even more fans.”
When asked what message they have for their fans, the Ahgase, Yugyeom stated, “Just as you have continued to send us love, we will also do our best to keep repaying your love. So, please keep your eyes on us. Ahgase, we appreciate and love you so much, and we support you, too!”
